First Families of Alabama

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey issues a Commendation
to the Alabama Genealogical Society, Inc.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivy issued a Commendation to the Alabama Genealogical Society, Inc., First Families of Alabama Certificate Program.  The Signing Ceremony was held on Thursday, July 11, in Montgomery at the State Capitol. In May 2024, the program reached a remarkable milestone with the issuance of Certificate Number 500, underscoring the commitment of AGS to this invaluable endeavor. A special recognition from the Governor was also given to Jyl Hardy, Director of First Families of Alabama Certificate Program who works tirelessly to collect, organize and award these certificates.

First Families of Alabama (FFA) is our longest running program offered to members of the AGS. This program is not affiliated with any other organization. This program allows members to recognize, preserve, and display their lineage as it relates to the creation of Alabama. It requires members to submit proof of their ancestors arriving in the area now known as Alabama before becoming a state on 14 December 1819.

If you feel you may qualify to receive this certification please click here for more information regarding this program, the requirements that need to be met and how to apply.

The AGS offers free help to members in identifying and honoring the memory of early residents in the state of Alabama. Early residents are those settlers who resided within the present boundaries of Alabama prior to statehood. Send your help request to president@algensoc.org
